Atlas origin positioning in elevation to match plan view
Is there any reason why the origins of plan and orthogonal (0, 90, 180 270 deg) elevation atlas pages do not produce equivalent grillages? For example in a layout for a plan view atlas I have the following; #ATLAS NAVIGATION PANE ORIGIN LABELS #Sets plan labels #---------------------------------- #Choose arbitrary datum for Beautiful Bulmer Series # A3 Atlas sets based on existing magnetic co-ordinate grid origin 5485 6320 1075 metres #co-ords of lower left corner of 'origin' atlas page origin-label 1 A #label & type <across> <down> and in a layout for elevation view atlas I have; #ATLAS NAVIGATION PANE ORIGIN LABELS #Sets elevation270 deg labels #---------------------------------- origin 5485 6320 1075 metres #co-ords of lower left corner of 'origin' atlas page origin-label 3 A #label & type <across> <down> Notice that the origin co-ordinates are the same, and the origin-label is not the same. If the origin-label was the same I would expect the plan and elevation atlas' produced to have pages that represent exactly the same part of the cave, but it does not. As written above the maps produced almost represent the same parts of the cave on each page, but not quite. I can understand this difference if the elevation were not projected either 0, 90, 180 or 270 deg, but if it is, why the discrepancy? Is this likely to be something I'm doing wrong or is it a characteristic of Therion? Bruce

In fact therion support for elevation atlas is not finished yet (we did not need to use it for our caves). In the case of elevation just the x-part and z-part of the origin are used regardless of projection angle. In one of previous posts (sorry for not answering some mail) you mentioned incorrect labeling for elevation atlases. Reason is the same, current behaviour was coded long time ago without having elevation atlases in mind. All users: Both issues (and some others collected from the mailing list) were submitted to the task tracker at http://savannah.nongnu.org/task/?group=therion We would like to use it to manage tasks, bugs and patches, so feell free to use it. If you are not sure whether some behaviour is a bug or a feature, discuss it on the mailing list as usual. Martin

Good idea Martin, I will try to use it. In fact I think I have successfully registered just now, after unsuccessfully poking at it from time to time over the previous year and not really knowing what to do with it, or if it was in use. Perhaps you could post some guidance as to how you want us to use it. Do we need to register? How to register? What are the various categories and how to decide which one an issue fits into? Etc Bruce

You do not have to register at all.
What are the various categories and how to decide which one an issue fits into?
Therion -- the language of input files Xtherion -- the user interface Loch -- the model viewer MetaPost -- language used to describe map symbols TeX -- page layout for PDF files If the issue fits into more categories, just choose one of them; if you are not sure, use just 'therion'. We can reassign the category later. Martin

Thanks Martin I suspected as much, and now that I know I can stop spending time on it! :) Bruce
