Doubt about vertical sections
Hello, I tried to make a .xvi for elevation and extended section starting from this dataset: survey test centerline units compass degrees units clino degrees units tape metres data normal from to length compass clino left right up down 0 1 10 45 -67 [1 2] [3 4] [5 6] [7 8] endcenterline endsurvey everything looks good, the up and down data are plotted in the right way. Then I changed the clino to -68 degrees and noticed that vertical sections were rotated in the elevation and extended xvi. Is that correct? Am I missing something? Here's the thconfig: encoding utf-8 source dati.th export map -proj plan -o pianta.xvi export map -proj extended -o sezione.xvi export map -proj elevation -o elevazione.xvi Thanks, Marco
Marco I tested your example and got the result you described with both xvi and pdf outputs. I think you have found the transition defined by ‘vthreshold’.
From the Therion Book…
“ vthreshold <number> <units> ◃ threshold for interpreting LRUD readings as left-right-front-back reading perpendicular to the shot. If passeges are horizontal (inclination < vthreshold), LR is perpendicular to the shot and UD is vertical. If passages are more or less vertical (inclination > vthreshold), even UD becomes perpendicular to the shot – otherwise passages would not look very good. In the case of vertical shots, UD is interpreted as north-south dimension from the station to allow tube-like modelling of verticals “ I had thought the default value of vthreshold was 60 degrees, but it seems it may be around 67.5 degrees. Bruce, thanks for you explanation. It appears I missed to carefully read the Therion Book! Marco Marco On Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 7:08 PM, Bruce <bruce@tomo.co.nz> wrote:
