Hello, I'm new in this list and would like to introduce. I have been caving for over 30 years and during this time I have many caves explored and measured. So far, I have always used Caverender together with AutoCAD or very early drawn the plans by hand. Now I have found Therion and I'm thrilled. However, it is somewhat difficult for me to find or to understand one or the other in the English manual . My english is a bit rusty and not so great. Also lacking in my opinion, examples and a good descriptor list in the manual. I know of course that the project Therion is doing from enthusiastic people and so I will even try as soon as I understand more from Therion involve me positively . Once it comes, I wish one or the other question to look or to answer. Now to my question: I have the following data sequence in my *.th-File: data normal from to lenght compass clino left right up down 1 2 10.83 125 -12 3.5 1.0 0.8 2.0 1 1a 1.0 125 -12 3.5 1.0 0.8 2.0 1a 1b 1.0 125 -12 3.0 0.8 1.2 1.5 1b 1c 1.0 125 -12 2.5 1.0 2.0 1.5 1c 1d 1.0 125 -12 2.0 1.5 2.0 1.0 1d 1e 1.0 125 -12 2.2 1.0 2.0 0.8 1e 1f 1.0 125 -12....... .......1j 2 0.83 125 -12 2.2 1.0 2.0 0.6 I want the data 1 to 1a ..... until 1j to 2 only may be used for the generation of a *. xvi file , but not for the production of the finished Map in plan and extended. I'd like only the main Points 1 and 2 are taken or written. So the Centerline should go directly from 1 to 2 . I hope I have expressed me in a understandable way. Many thanks for any idea Best wishes Markus
Markus I have never used splay survey legs, so perhaps I am not the best person to attempt an answer to your question, but I think it is what you are after. Look up 'flags' on page 19 of the Therion Book for a description. I'm guessing you would have to modify your data entry as follows. data normal from to length compass clino left right up down 1 2 10.83 125 -12 3.5 1.0 0.8 2.0 flags splay 1 1a 1.0 125 -12 3.5 1.0 0.8 2.0 1 1b 2.0 125 -12 3.0 0.8 1.2 1.5 1 1c 3.0 125 -12 2.5 1.0 2.0 1.5 1 1d 4.0 125 -12 2.0 1.5 2.0 1.0 1 1e 5.0 125 -12 2.2 1.0 2.0 0.8 1 1f 6.0 125 -12....... flags not splay 2 3 . My personal preference is to separate the survey leg data from the dimensions data as follows; data normal from to length compass clino 1 2 10.83 125 -12 etc data dimensions station left right up down 1 3.5 1.0 0.8 2.0 2 etc I find it easier to check as there are fewer numbers in each row, and it is explicitly stated which station the dimensions apply to, but there are very many ways to do it depending on your preference. Bruce
Bruce, thank you very much for that fast answer! But...... That idea is good for making the data of the centerline and the wall-points easier to handle. So far I will do it in that way you give in example one in future. That is the way we survey a cave normaly. Earlier with this data we have drawn the map after it was estimated with CaveRender. So we have got the dimensions. Additionally we have made a coorekt scaled drawing in the cave. Today with Therion, if the drawing in the cave is correctly (or nearly) scaled that way is not longer necessary. But it is a good tradition and a possibility to proof the drawing of the map. In this relation my original question was: What must I do (and now I try my question in an other way), if I namely want to have all data in my data-file, but in the Map there should shown only the main-station-points (1, 2, ...)with name along the centerline. The Station with extention a, b, c... should not drawn and named. May it be, that that is only possible with a different METAPOST-Code or is there a possibility in Therion itself? In both cases of your example I get all stations drawn and named. This has been fixed recently (splay shots are not displayed in the map). I am not sure if latest snapshot already contains the fix -- if not, you have to wait for 5.2.7. Martin
Hi Martin, many thanks! I have tried the update (5.2.6) now. I determine that I have to wait for "next generation". For finishing my Map I have (I hope) al last question. I think I have have found all terms (or those which are interesting for the Moment) to configure the legend, but not how it is possible to scale the Text of the scalebar. layout scale-bar 30 m #makes the bar as long as 30m is in scale of the drawing But the text "30 m" is to small. Greetings Markus

Than one is a problem. I hope, Stacho or MartinB will add this feature. northarrow: code metapost def s_northarrow (expr rot) = T:=identity scaled 1.5 rotated -rot; thdraw (-.5cm,-1cm)--(0,1.5cm)--(.5cm,-1cm)--(0,-.5cm)--cycle; thfill (-.5cm,-1cm)--(0,1.5cm)--(0,-.5cm)--cycle; enddef; endcode code tex-map \def\maplayout{ \legendbox{10}{35}{NW}{\the\legendcontent} \legendbox{80}{90}{N}{\northarrow} \legendbox{80}{80}{N}{\scalebar} } MartinS

You can use this code in the layout. Change \size[20] to whatever you need. Someday the customization parameters will be accessible from layout without the need for redefining macros, but currently some more important issues are on the list. Martin code mpost def s_scalebar (expr l, units, txt) = begingroup interim warningcheck:=0; tmpl:=l / Scale * cm * units / 2; endgroup; pickup PenC; draw (-tmpl,0)--(tmpl,0); draw (-tmpl,0)--(-tmpl,2bp); draw (tmpl,0)--(tmpl,2bp); begingroup interim labeloffset:=2bp; label.top(thTEX("\size[20]" & decimal (l) & "\thinspace " & txt),origin); endgroup enddef;
Excuse, I have forgotten to ask for changig the size of the northarrow. greetings Markus
Thanks, martin, yesterday night I have found a simple solution for that "problem": In the map-editor in the line OPTIONS from the point station I have written additionally to the option "-name 1" "-visibility off". And now it works as I want to have my map. Very good an simple regards Markus -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: therion-bounces@speleo.sk [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] Im Auftrag von Martin Budaj Gesendet: Mittwoch, 4.
