Re: [Therion] Patch for wx2.8 and 64-bit issues
Good evening, I have read about the need to upgrade to therion 0.5.1. So I am busy at work compiling. Unfortunately it fails with the line | lxRender.cxx:(.text+0x59a): undefined reference to `vtk_png_write_end' So I searched, and found the archived thread "Patch for wx2.8 and 64-bit issues", noticed the patch there talks about lxRenderer. I also use wx2.8 on x86-64, so I thought the patch would apply to me. There was no mention of the failing line, so I presume it would be the same. I have 0.5.1 from the actual download at therion.speleo.sk. But applying the patch file to loch/lxRender.cxx fails with | patching file loch/lxRender.cxx | patch: **** malformed patch at line 12: @@ -439,7 +439,7 @@ I read in that post about the name problem, so I searched lxRender.cxx for wxSAVE successfully, and so it seems my lxRender.cxx needs patching. Is there a svn where I can check it out? Or has anyone an already patched lxRender.cxx fitting 0.5.1, and can send it to me by email, please? Best regards, Christian
As far as I know - all patches from the mailing list have been applied. At least in the latest developement snapshot (downloadable from our therion web site) - this should be the case. Could you please try this one and not 0.5.1?

Which OS do you use? It looks, like you are missing libpng. How did you installed VTK? Do you have "libpng-devel" package installed in your system? Usualy one of make config-linux or make config-debian seems to work. Which one do you use? Regards, S.

Ah, good!

I am a bit confused: I tried the one from <http://therion.speleo.sk/download.php>, which says <http://therion.speleo.sk/downloads/therion-0.5.1.tar.gz>. Is this not the one I should upgrade to?

Linux Suse 10.1, 2.6.16.27, x86_64.

Installed are: libpng-32bit-1.2.8-19.5, libpng-devel-1.2.8-19.9, and libpng-1.2.8-19.5. VTK is vtk-5.0.3, compiled, in /usr/local.I have linked it from /usr/include/vtk-5.0 to /usr/local/include/vtk-5.0. But I have noticed I have deleted a link from /usr/include/png.h to /usr/include/libpng12/... , perhaps.
make config-linux make config-debian seems to work. Which one do you use?
I use make config.linux. Well, I also made sure I have installed the 32-bet-devels also, and now it outputs (and perhaps before, made an 'ldconfig' also: | c++ -o loch -Wall lxR2P.o lxTR.o lxOGLFT.o lxSetup.o lxRender.o lxWX.o | lxImgIO.o lxLRUD.o lxFile.o lxData.o lxMath.o lxSView.o lxSScene.o lxGUI.o | lxGLCo.o lxGLCs.o lxOptDlg.o lxAboutDlg.o img.o | -L/usr/lib64 /usr/lib64/libwx_gtk2u_gl-2.8.a -lGL -lGLU -L/usr/lib64 | -pthread -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 /usr/lib64/libwx_gtk2u-2.8.a -pthread | -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 -L/opt/gnome/lib64 -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lgdk-x11-2.0 -latk-1.0 | -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lpango-1.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -ldl -lfreetype | -lfontconfig -lXrender -lX11 -lXext -lpng12 -lz -lglitz -lm -lgthread-2.0 | -lglib-2.0 -lXinerama -lXxf86vm -lSM -lpng -lz -ljpeg -ltiff -lwxregexu-2.8 | -lz -ldl -lm -L/usr/local/include/vtk-5.0/lib/vtk -lvtkHybrid -lvtkImaging | -lvtkIO -lvtkGraphics -lvtkFiltering -lvtkCommon -lvtkjpeg -lvtkpng | -lvtkzlib -lfreetype -lpthread -lz -s | /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.1.0/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: | skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libpng12.so when searching for -lpng12 | /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.1.0/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: | skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libpng12.a when searching for -lpng12 | /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.1.0/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: | cannot find -lpng12 | collect2: ld returned 1 exit status | make[1]: *** [loch] Fehler 1 | make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/chr/downloads/therion/loch' | make: *** [loch/loch] Fehler 2 ...and I wonder about the 'ld: skipping incompatible'. No - please note last two lines (with small letters) - where link to developement snapshot is: "Developer's snapshot as of 2007-11-14 for testing purposes." Where 2007-11-14 is the link to the latest source package: http://therion.speleo.sk/downloads/therion-20071114.tar.bz2
...and I wonder about the 'ld: skipping incompatible'.
Hmmm, it looks there are two problems: 1. -lpng12 can not be found? This I do not understand - you should check whether this library is inside /usr/lib or not. 2. It seems, there is a conflict between -lvtkpng and -lpng12. As far as I know - these are the same (libvtkpng is libpng shipped with VTK). I would try to delete -lvtkpng from Makefile - because -lpng12 is there due to wx-config I think. But probably most clean solution would be to uninstall VTK from /usr/local and install VTK from SuSe RPM packages. And then use make config-debian. At least it works also on my Mandriva linux, which is also RPM based. S.

Thank, I have downloaded this one now.

/usr/lib/libpng12.so -> libpng12.so.0 /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0 -> libpng12.so.0.1.2.8 /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0.1.2.8 /usr/lib/libpng.a -> libpng12.a /usr/lib/libpng.so -> libpng.so.3 /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 -> libpng.so.3.1.2.8 /usr/lib/libpng.so.3.1.2.8 ...which I think is sufficient, no?

You surely mean loch/Makefile at VTKLIBS=? I tried that, but to no avail.

The problem there is that I am unable to find a rpm for Suse 10.0 or a compatible one either in the install sources or on the net; because that I had to compile it in the first place (being lazy as usual:). But I keep searching. Best regards, Christian

as it seems the error lies deeper. I have tried to compile another software (which needs linpng), and it won't compile too. So it is a png-lib-problem on my box here, but not a therion issue. That's good, at least. Obviously I have to fix that first before I can try again on therion. Greetings, Christian
