Choice of software: 

I am aware that Zoomify does this sort of thing too. But I chose krpano viewer as I already had a license. It is not the cheapest viewer if you just want to present flat images, but I primarily use it for my panoramic tours (as example here which has hotspot links to other caves if you want to explore a bit http://wscc.darkgem.com/footleg/pano/Risco.html )

Don't you tried to morph scanned images in Therion by export PDFs with sketches on?
